These Hot Wheels Games Will Blow Your Mind

...And Bring You Back To Your Childhood

by Bill Flitter

Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars are a right of passage for a young kid. Growing up in the 70s, there wasn’t a kid on the block who didn’t have at least one Matchbox or Hot Wheels car. And what kid didn’t create their own Hot Wheels Games with their favorite vehicles.

Made of cheap die cast metal, rubber, and plastic, it was great fun not only to trade them with your friends but to race them and smash them into walls. Kids today still love to run them directly off the kitchen table just to see how far they will fly and how loud they will crash; and if you race two at a time, that just doubles the fun to see which will fly further.

Matchbox cars and Hot Wheels were once in competition. Matchbox cars came first in 1953 through Lesney Products. Mattel released Hot Wheels in 1968. The two companies were competitors for 29 years until Mattel bought Matchbox cars in 1997.

Hot Wheels Games - One of the most sought-after Hot Wheels cars is the 1969 Twin Mill, designed by Ira Gilford for Mattel. This car is one of the "Sweet 16," and the first versions released in orange, apple green, creamy pink, red, and antifreeze, were cast in the US, and are very rare.

Made of cheap orange plastic with connectors, you could twist and shape your track to your liking. If you had a really fancy set, you could make loop de loops to send your Hot Wheels cars spinning.
