What Is The Best SUV
For The Money?
2017s Most Frugal SUVs
by Bill Flitter
It seems like money is always tight these days. Getting the most bang for your buck is always a top priority at least in my household. Especially when it comes to making a large purchase, like buying a new small SUV. Compact utility vehicles (CUVs) have been widespread since the mid-90s and manufacturers keep coming out with new models every year. So what is the best SUV for the money?
Compact SUVs are a consumer-friendly product in that they cater to the fuel economy of a compact car. They offer SUV features like riding high with great visibility and there’s extra cargo room in the back. I thought I’d take at what the best compact SUVs are available that won’t break the budget.
Here now, in no particular order are all of the best SUVs for the money (i.e. under $25,000).
What Is The Best SUV For The Money?
2017 Nissan Rogue
The 2017 Nissan Rogue was remodeled with an updated styling for both the exterior and interior. Plus, Nissan has introduced a hybrid model. The Nissan Rogue also stands out from the competition. It’s the only CUV to fit seven people. That means my family of 4, the dog and two of the kid’s friends.
It’s also the 4th best selling compact SUV for 2017.
2017 Jeep Wrangler
If I have hear my daughter say one more time, “Daddy, let’s get a Jeep Wrangler” or “Daddy I think we NEED a Jeep Wrangler.”
I love the Jeep Wrangler. I had a Forest Green Wrangler Sahara before I had kids. My wife ‘suggested’ we sell it because it’s not safe to put a carseat in the rear seat nor convenient. This was of course before 4 door Wrangler existed. Now if I only knew what a cool dad I would become one dad in the eyes of my unborn daughter!
2017 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape has come up in my research before with CUVs, notably when looking at the best audio features, which were unfortunately lacking. The 2017 version of the Escape is the most improved when looking at a comparison test.
The new Escape has an all new inside and outside. It also now has a pair of new EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. Plus, it comes with new infotainment package, which is how you connect your phone to the car to access text, music and more.
2017 Toyota RAV4
2017 Hyundai Tucson
The Hyundai Tucson was redesigned last year, so it might be one of the few vehicles on this list that doesn’t boast a brand new stylish design for this year.
As one review put it, “Fuel economy, ride quality and urban agility were just a handful of areas in which the Tucson stood out from the pack. Plus, it’s easily one of the most attractive small SUVs in the mainstream marketplace.”
I might argue with how attractive it really is, but I’ve always been a Honda fan. The only thing I can’t argue with is that it does have the best warranty in its class. Also of note is that the Tucson does have excellent safety ratings.
2017 Honda CR-V
The 2017 Honda CR-V has been the best selling compact SUV for the past 20 – TWENTY – years! The remodeled 2017 comes with, a turbocharged engine that earns up to 34 mpg. It has a number of active-safety features like blind-spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking. It also has a revamped interior that is both roomier and more functional.
Based on the price and value, the Honda CR-V has my vote for the best SUV for the money.
