A confused decade was the 1970s, especially with 70’s music. The hippies of the 60s and the preppies of the 80s sandwiched it.

Many of you might be too young to remember bell bottoms. Or even to see Led Zeppelin in concert during their prime. But the guitar riffs from that era are with us to stay and for good reason.

One Piece At A Time - Johnny Cash

The man in black wrote this song about stealing a car straight from the assembly plant, one piece at a time, back in 1976.

I'm In Love With My Car - Queen

Roger Taylor, the drummer for Queen, belted this song out back in 1975.

Greased Lightning - John Travolta

The boys sang and danced around a 1948 Ford De Luxe Convertible in the movie Grease. When you listen to this song again, pay attention to some of the original lyrics.

This particular gem of a car song may have slipped through the cracks over the years. But go back and give it listen, it’s an ageless song.

Trampled Under Foot - Led Zeppelin

In 1975 Led Zeppelin released Physical Graffiti with the song Trampled Under Foot. Zeppelin is famous for gaining inspiration from legendary bluesman Robert Johnson.

This song is no exception.

Johnson’s Terraplane Blues inspired Trampled Under Foot. This was a car from the 1930s.

Midnight Rider - The Allman Brothers

No band says the 1970s like the Allman Brothers. Released in 1970, Midnight Rider is a classic no one will ever forget.

Slow Ride - Foghat

This song was released in 1975 but made immortal in the movie Dazed and Confused. Slow Ride is one of those songs you’ll want to slow down to enjoy.

Detroit Rock City - KISS

Detroit is where they make cars and KISS paid them tribute in 1976. The song, when first released, bombed. Except in the actual city of Detroit, though. Which is fairly surprising.

It has gone on to become a fan favorite everywhere.

Highway Star - Deep Purple

1972 saw the release of Machine Head and the song Highway Star. This song was written for speed.

Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen

Baby, tramps like us were born to run. Rock and roll would never be the same after this song hit the airwaves.

Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen

The Boss was hot back in the 70s. One of his best songs of all time is Thunder Road.

It’s a quiet song, for the quiet times, maybe saved best for the end of the road trip.

Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin

Janis might not have written this song. She certainly made Me and Bobby McGee a number one hit back in 1971 though.

No one will ever forget about that busted flat outside of Baton Rouge.
