70's Music About Cars
That Will Make You
by Bill Flitter
A confused decade was the 1970s, especially with 70’s music. The hippies of the 60s and the preppies of the 80s sandwiched it.
Many of you might be too young to remember bell bottoms. Or even to see Led Zeppelin in concert during their prime. But the guitar riffs from that era are with us to stay and for good reason.
Here now is some of the best of 70s music to blow out your car speakers.
The Best Of 70s Music Car Songs
One Piece At A Time - Johnny Cash
The man in black wrote this song about stealing a car straight from the assembly plant, one piece at a time, back in 1976.
I'm In Love With My Car - Queen
Roger Taylor, the drummer for Queen, belted this song out back in 1975.
Greased Lightning - John Travolta
Did you know...
Always Crashing In The Same Car - David Bowie
In 1977 David Bowie was kicking his drug habit, moved from New York to Berlin, and in the process created one of his most highly regarded albums, Low.
Ridin In My Car - NRBQ
A hidden gem of a band, this song will have you bumpin’ down the road
Radar Love - Golden Earring
In 1973, a band by the name of Golden Earring released a song called Radar Love, three guesses what this song is about.
Watching the video will have you tripping back in time.
Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody
This particular gem of a car song may have slipped through the cracks over the years. But go back and give it listen, it’s an ageless song.
Trampled Under Foot - Led Zeppelin
In 1975 Led Zeppelin released Physical Graffiti with the song Trampled Under Foot. Zeppelin is famous for gaining inspiration from legendary bluesman Robert Johnson.
This song is no exception.
Johnson’s Terraplane Blues inspired Trampled Under Foot. This was a car from the 1930s.
Midnight Rider - The Allman Brothers
No band says the 1970s like the Allman Brothers. Released in 1970, Midnight Rider is a classic no one will ever forget.
Slow Ride - Foghat
This song was released in 1975 but made immortal in the movie Dazed and Confused. Slow Ride is one of those songs you’ll want to slow down to enjoy.
Detroit Rock City - KISS
Detroit is where they make cars and KISS paid them tribute in 1976. The song, when first released, bombed. Except in the actual city of Detroit, though. Which is fairly surprising.
It has gone on to become a fan favorite everywhere.
Highway Star - Deep Purple
1972 saw the release of Machine Head and the song Highway Star. This song was written for speed.
Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
Baby, tramps like us were born to run. Rock and roll would never be the same after this song hit the airwaves.
Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen
The Boss was hot back in the 70s. One of his best songs of all time is Thunder Road.
It’s a quiet song, for the quiet times, maybe saved best for the end of the road trip.
Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
Janis might not have written this song. She certainly made Me and Bobby McGee a number one hit back in 1971 though.
No one will ever forget about that busted flat outside of Baton Rouge.

The 1970s might be an era that many wish to forget, but it contained some of the best rock n roll to ever be put to vinyl. What do you think of our 70s music list? Which songs would you add?
