Dad, Coffee Lover, Coach, First Car: '79 Camaro
I’m not going to lie. I want a pickup truck in a bad way. Why? Because they are cool. And the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado is a beast. Now practicality sets in and I quickly realize, I have no need for a bad-ass pickup truck.
My desire for truck stems from my early days of growing up on a farm. We had many different pickups throughout my childhood. Although my dad was a Ford man he drove a Dodge pick for a short while. What I remember about that Dodge was its difficulty in starting on those cold winter mornings in Wisconsin. I learned a lot of ‘new words’ shivering in that truck as my dad tried to start it.
But I digress. Let’s get back to the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado What’s News and What Stays The Same
Chevrolet has released the facts and features of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and some of this news might blow you away. To get started, Chevy has announced approximately 10 different special editions (it’s tough to keep track of them all) for the latest iteration of their Silverado line of pickup trucks, which is their most popular model. Before we get to that though, let’s take a look at what’s staying the same.
Power Stays The Same In 2018
Chevy did not touch the engine or the transmission for 2018. Next year’s model, in many ways, is the same as the 2017. Chevy does not plan to release a whole new model of trucks until 2019. You can still get the 4.3 liter V6, 5.3 liter V8 and the 6.2 liter V8. There’s also a six speed available. Basically, Chevy left the powertrains the same except for the e-assist hybrid model, which boosts fuel efficiency and is known as a “mild-hybrid.” You can’t run the truck on electricity alone, it’s just an assist, which is an answer to Ford’s ecoboost. Drivers can expect to get 18 city and 24 highway miles per gallon.
